بَابُ الْمُؤْمِنِ نَسَّاءٌ إِذَا ذُكِّرَ ذَكَرَ .
The believer is forgetful, but when reminded he remembers

عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - قَالَ : " مَا مِنْ عَبْدٍ مُؤْمِنٍ إِلَّا وَلَهُ ذَنْبٌ يَعْتَادُهُ الْفَيْنَةَ بَعْدَ الْفَيْنَةِ ، أَوْ ذَنْبٌ هُوَ مُقِيمٌ عَلَيْهِ لَا يُفَارِقُهُ حَتَّى يُفَارِقَ ، وَإِنَّ الْمُؤْمِنَ خُلِقَ مُفَتَّنًا ، تَوَّابًا ، نَسَّاءً ، إِذَا ذُكِّرَ ذَكَرَ " . رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْكَبِيرِ وَالْأَوْسَطِ بِاخْتِصَارٍ ، وَأَحَدُ أَسَانِيدِ الْكَبِيرِ رِجَالُهُ ثِقَاتٌ ، وَلَهُ السِّيَاقُ .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) reports that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Every believer has a habit of committing some sin from time to time, or there is some sin which he persists in and does not leave until he leaves (this world). The believer has been created in a state where he is tried (that is, he falls into sin), repents abundantly, and is forgetful, but when he is reminded, he remembers."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat he recorded it in abridged form. The narrators of one of the chains of al-Mu'jam al-Kabir are thiqat (trustworthy), and the wording given is from it.
