Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) says: "The example of trivial sins is like that of travellers who camp in a wilderness. They have grain with them for food, but that grain can only be prepared by fire. So they scatter here and there; one person brings dung, another brings a bone, another brings a stick, until they gather enough things to light a fire and prepare their food. Such is the example of the one who commits trivial sins: sometimes he tells a lie, sometimes he commits some other sin, and when all of these gather, they may cause him to be thrown on his face into the fire of Hell."
Al-Tabarani recorded it as a mawquf narration (stopping at the Companion) with two chains, and the narrators of one of them are the narrators of the Sahih.
