Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: Sayyiduna Dawud (peace be upon him) used to make this supplication:
'Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min malin yakunu alayya fitnah, wa min waladin yakunu alayya wabalan, wa min mir'at al-su', tuqarribu al-shayba qabla al-mashib, wa a'udhu bika min jari su'in tar'ani aynahu, wa tasma'uni udhunahu, in ra'a hasanatan dafanaha, wa in ra'a sayyi'atan adha'aha'
(O Allah! I seek Your refuge from wealth that becomes a trial for me, and I seek Your refuge from children who become a burden for me, and I seek Your refuge from the mirror of evil that brings old age near before old age arrives; and I seek Your refuge from a bad neighbour whose eyes are on me and whose ears are turned towards me: if he sees a good deed he buries it, and if he sees a bad deed he spreads it.)
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A bad neighbour in the place of residence breaks one's back."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains narrators whom I do not know.
