Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up and made a supplication the like of which the people had never heard, and he sought refuge in a way the like of which the people had never heard. One of those present said to him (peace and blessings be upon him): "O Messenger of Allah! How can we supplicate the way you have supplicated, and seek refuge the way you have sought refuge?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Say:
'Allahumma inna nas'aluka bima sa'alaka Muhammadun abduka wa rasuluk, wa nasta'idhu bima ista'adha abduka wa rasuluk'
(O Allah! We ask You for what Your servant and Your Messenger, Sayyiduna Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), asked You for, and we seek Your refuge from everything from which Your servant and Your Messenger sought refuge.)"
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Saghir; its chain contains a narrator, Muhammad bin Abd al-Rahman bin al-Muhabbar, who is matruk (abandoned).
