Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 17393

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to make this supplication often:
'Allahumma ij'alni akhshaka hatta ka'anni araka abadan hatta alqaka, wa as'idni bi taqwaka, wa la tushqini bi ma'siyatika, wa khir li fi qada'ika, wa barik li fi qadarika hatta la uhibba ta'jila ma akhkharta, wa la ta'khira ma 'ajjalta, waj'al ghina'i fi nafsi, wa amti'ni bi sam'i wa basari, waj'alhuma al-waritha minni, wansurni 'ala man zalamani, wa arini fihi tha'ri, wa aqirra bi dhalika 'ayni' (O Allah, make me a servant who fears You the most, until I become as though I am always seeing You, and let it remain so until I come into Your presence. Grant me happiness through Your piety (taqwa), and do not make me wretched through disobedience to You. Choose what is best for me in Your decision, and place blessing for me in Your decree, so that I do not wish to hasten what You have delayed nor to delay what You have hastened. Place my sufficiency (or self-sufficiency) in my soul. Keep benefiting me through my hearing and sight, and make them both my heirs. Help me against whoever has wronged me, show me my retribution concerning him, and cool my eyes through that).
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains a narrator, Ibrahim bin Khuthaym bin Irak, who is matruk (abandoned). Al-Bazzar recorded the last part of this narration, containing these words: "Benefit me through my hearing," followed by the narration as before, which is transmitted with a jayyid (good) chain.
