Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: In his supplication, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would most often recite:
'Allahumma muqalliba al-qulubi thabbit qalbi 'ala dinika' (O Allah, O Turner of hearts, keep my heart firm (that is, settled) upon Your religion).
Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: I said: O Messenger of Allah! Do hearts also change? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Yes! Of the creation of Allah Almighty, among the children of Adam, every human being has his heart between two of the fingers of Allah Almighty; if Allah Almighty wills, He keeps it upright, and if He wills, He makes it deviate. So we ask Allah Almighty not to make our hearts deviate after He has guided us, and we ask Him to bestow His mercy upon us; indeed, He is the Most Bestowing. Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) says: I said: O Messenger of Allah! Will you not teach me a supplication which I may make for myself? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Yes! Recite: 'Allahumma rabba al-nabiyyi Muhammadin ighfir li dhanbi, wa adhhib ghayza qalbi, wa ajirni min mudillati al-fitani ma ahyaytana' (O Allah, Lord of Sayyiduna Muhammad, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), forgive my sins, remove the anger of my heart, and protect me from the misleading trials for as long as You keep me alive).
(Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Al-Tirmidhi recorded part of this narration.
Ahmad recorded it, and its chain is hasan (good).
