Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 17361

Awsat Abu Amr al-Bajali narrates: I came to Madinah one year after the passing of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and I found Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) addressing the people. He said: Last year the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood among us to deliver a sermon, and three times it happened that his voice was choked by weeping. Then he said: "O people, ask Allah Almighty for 'mu'afah' (well-being), for no person has been given anything like certainty after 'mu'afah' (perhaps this is an error of the scribe or copyist, since the sentence should be: 'like mu'afah after certainty'), and there is nothing more severe than doubt after disbelief."
(Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Ibn Majah recorded part of this narration.
Ahmad recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih, except for the narrator named Awsat, who is thiqah (trustworthy).
