Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 17360

Abu Ishaq narrates: Sayyiduna al-Bara' bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Shall I not teach you a supplication which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) taught me? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When you see that people have become eager for gold and silver, then supplicate with these words:
'Allahumma inni as'aluka al-thabata fi al-amr, wa as'aluka 'azimata al-rushd, wa as'aluka shukra ni'matika wa al-sabra 'ala bala'ika, wa husna 'ibadatika, wa al-rida bi qada'ika, wa as'aluka qalban saliman, wa lisanan sadiqan, wa as'aluka min khayri ma ta'lamu, wa a'udhu bika min sharri ma ta'lamu, wa astaghfiruka lima ta'lamu' (O Allah, I ask You that I remain steadfast in the religion; I ask You that I remain firm upon right guidance; I ask You that I give thanks for Your blessing, have patience in Your trial, worship You well and remain content with Your decree; I ask You for a sound heart and a truthful tongue; I ask You to grant (me) good according to Your knowledge; I seek refuge in You from evil according to Your knowledge; and I seek Your forgiveness according to Your knowledge)."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains a narrator, Musa bin Matir, who is matruk (abandoned).
