Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Shall I not teach you the words which Jibril taught me?" I said: Yes, O Messenger of Allah! The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Recite:
'Allahumma ighfir li khata'i wa 'amdi, wa hazli wa jiddi, wa la tahrimni barakata ma a'taytani, wa la taftinni fima ahramtani' (O Allah, forgive my mistakes, what I did deliberately, my jesting and my seriousness; do not deprive me of the blessing of what You have given me, and do not put me to trial concerning what You have withheld from me).
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih, except for Ismah Abu Hakimah, who is thiqah (trustworthy).
