Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite:
'Allahumma ighfir li ma qaddamtu wa ma akhkhartu, wa ma asrartu wa ma a'lantu, wa israfi wa ma anta a'lamu bihi minni, anta al-muqaddimu wa anta al-mu'akhkhiru, la ilaha illa anta' (O Allah, forgive me for what I have done before and what I will do afterwards, what I have done in secret and what I have done openly, and whatever excess was mine, and that which You know better than I do. Indeed, You are the One who brings forward and You are the One who puts back; there is no god but You).
Ahmad recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, al-Mas'udi, who is thiqah (trustworthy), but he suffered from confusion (ikhtilat); the remaining narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
