Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When a man goes to his bed, an angel and a devil rush to him. The angel says: End with good! The devil says: End with evil! The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) says: If that person remembers Allah and then sleeps, the angel keeps guarding him throughout the night. And when that person wakes up, the angel says: Begin with good! And the devil says: Begin with evil! If that person recites:
'Alhamdu lillahil-ladhi radda 'alayya nafsi wa lam yumitha fi manamiha, alhamdu lillahil-ladhi yumsikus-samawati wal-arda an tazula (to the end of the verse), alhamdu lillahil-ladhi yumsikus-sama'a an taqa'a 'alal-ardi illa bi-idhnih' (All praise belongs to Allah alone, who has returned my soul to me and did not cause it to die in its sleep. All praise belongs to Allah alone, who holds the heavens and the earth lest they cease (the narrator says: this verse is to be recited to its end, and then this is to be recited:) All praise belongs to Allah alone, who holds back the sky from falling upon the earth except by His permission).
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) says: If that person then falls from his bed and dies, he will enter Paradise."
Abu Ya'la recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih, except for Ibrahim bin al-Hajjaj al-Shami, and he is thiqah (trustworthy).
