Sayyidah Aishah Siddiqah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would give instructions about his bed, and it would be spread out for him. Then he would face the qiblah. When he lay down on it, he would make his right palm his pillow, then he would recite something in a low voice; we could not tell what he was reciting. But at the end of it he would raise his voice and recite:
'Allahumma rabbas-samawatis-sab', wa rabbal-'arshil-'azim, ilaha (aw rabba) kulli shay', munzilat-tawrati wal-injili wal-furqan, faliqal-habbi wan-nawa, a'udhu bika min sharri kulli shay'in anta akhidhun bi-nasiyatih. Allahumma antal-awwalu fa-laysa qablaka shay', wa antal-akhiru laysa ba'daka shay', wa antaz-zahiru fa-laysa fawqaka shay', wa antal-batinu fa-laysa dunaka shay', iqdi 'annad-dayn, wa aghnina minal-faqr' (O Allah, O Lord of the seven heavens, O Lord of the mighty Throne, O Lord of everything (the narrator is unsure; perhaps the words are: O God of everything), O Revealer of the Torah, the Gospel and the Furqan, O Splitter of the grain and the date-stone, I seek refuge in You from the evil of everything whose forelock You hold. O Allah, You are the First, there was nothing before You; You are the Last, there will be nothing after You; You are the Manifest, there is nothing above You; You are the Hidden, there is nothing below You. Settle our debt for us and free us from poverty).
Abu Ya'la recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, al-Sari bin Isma'il, who is matruk (abandoned).
