Umayr bin al-Ma'mum narrates: I came to Madinah to visit my cousin, who was the wife of Sayyiduna Imam Hasan bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with them both). I attended the morning prayer with Sayyiduna Imam Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him) in the Prophet's Mosque. That day was the walimah of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with them both). The messenger of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with them both) came and said: "O son of the Messenger of Allah, today is the walimah of Sayyiduna Ibn al-Zubayr, and he has sent me to you." Sayyiduna Imam Hasan bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) turned to me and asked: "Has the sun risen?" I replied: "I think it must have risen." He said: "All praise of every kind belongs to Allah Almighty, who has made it rise from its appointed place of rising." Then he related: I heard my father and my maternal grandfather, that is, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), say: "Whoever, after performing the morning prayer, sits remembering Allah Almighty until the sun rises, Allah Almighty places a barrier between that person and Hell." Then he said: "Get up and come to Ibn al-Zubayr's invitation!" The narrator says: When we reached the door, Sayyiduna Ibn al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with them both) met him at the door. Sayyiduna Ibn al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "O son of the Messenger of Allah, today you were late in coming to me." Sayyiduna Imam Hasan bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "I have accepted your invitation, although I am fasting." Sayyiduna Ibn al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "Then here is a gift." Then Sayyiduna Imam Hasan bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: I heard my father and my maternal grandfather, that is, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), say: "The gift of the fasting person is fragrance: that he perfumes his beard, perfumes his clothes and spreads it." The narrator says: I said: "O son of the Messenger of Allah, repeat this to me." He said: I heard my father and my maternal grandfather, that is, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), say: "Whoever keeps coming and going to the mosque learns a decisive verse, or attains an awaited mercy, or acquires some knowledge, or learns some word that increases his guidance or that turns some evil away from him, or that person abandons sins out of fear or modesty."
Al-Bazzar recorded it; its chain contains Sa'id bin Tarif al-Hadhdha', and he is matruk (abandoned).
