Sayyidah Umm Hani bint Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with her) said: Once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by me, and I said: "O Messenger of Allah, I have grown old and weak" (the narrator says: or whatever words she used), "so direct me to a deed that I can do while sitting." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Recite 'Subhan Allah' one hundred times; this will be for you equal to freeing one hundred slaves from the descendants of Sayyiduna Isma'il (peace be upon him). Recite 'Alhamdulillah' one hundred times, for this will be equal to one hundred horses, saddled and bridled, which you have given for riding in the path of Allah. Recite 'Allahu akbar' 100 times, for this will be for you equal to 100 camels of sacrificial offering (hady), garlanded and accepted. And recite 'La ilaha illa Allah' one hundred times."
Ibn Khalaf, one of the narrators, says: I think the narration has these words: "It fills what is between the heavens and the earth, and on that day no one's deed will be raised up (that is, equal to this deed of yours), except for one who has done the like of what you have done."
(Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Ibn Majah recorded it in abridged form.
Ahmad, and al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, recorded it, and he did not say "I think." Al-Tabarani also recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, but in it he narrated these words: "I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I have become advanced in age and my bones have become weak, so guide me to a deed that will admit me into Paradise.' The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'Excellent, excellent! You have asked (an important or good) question.' Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: (that is, further on in this narration the words are:)
'This will be better for you than one hundred sacrificial camels that are garlanded and covered with cloths, and that you have sent as offerings (hady) to the House of Allah. And recite La ilaha illa Allah one hundred times; this will be better for you than everything between the heavens and the earth, and on that day no deed of anyone will be raised up that is more excellent than the deed raised up from you, except for one who has recited these words as many times as you have recited them, or more.'"
The chains of all these narrations are hasan (good).
