Harith, the freed slave of Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him), states: One day Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) was seated, and we were also sitting with him, when the mu'adhdhin came to him.
(Allamah Haythami says:) I say: After this he mentioned the complete narration, in which it is stated: "The obligatory prayer wipes out sins." Further on are these words: "And these are the good deeds that remove evil deeds." The people said: "These are good deeds; so what are the enduring ones?" Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "They are these phrases: 'La ilaha illallah, wa subhanallah, wal-hamdu lillah, wa la ilaha illallah, wallahu akbar, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah' (There is no deity except Allah; glory be to Allah; all praise is for Allah; there is no deity except Allah; Allah is the Greatest; and there is no power and no strength except with Allah)."
Ahmad, Abu Ya'la and Bazzar recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih, except for al-Harith bin Abd, the freed slave of Sayyiduna Uthman, and he is thiqah (trustworthy).
