بَابُ فَضْلِ ذِكْرِ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى ، وَالْإِكْثَارِ مِنْهُ
The virtue of remembering Allah and doing so abundantly

وَعَنْ جَابِرٍ - رَفَعَهُ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - قَالَ : " مَا عَمِلَ آدَمِيٌّ عَمَلًا أَنْجَى لَهُ مِنَ الْعَذَابِ مِنْ ذِكْرِ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى " . قِيلَ : وَلَا الْجِهَادُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ ؟ ! قَالَ : " وَلَا الْجِهَادُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ إِلَّا أَنْ يَضْرِبَ بِسَيْفِهِ حَتَّى يَنْقَطِعَ " .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الصَّغِيرِ وَالْأَوْسَطِ ، وَرِجَالُهُمَا رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ .

Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) reports this as a marfu' hadith traced back to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): (He (peace and blessings be upon him) said:) "A person does no deed that saves him from the punishment more than the remembrance of Allah. It was submitted: Not even jihad in the path of Allah? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Not even jihad in the path of Allah, except in the case where a man keeps striking with his sword until it (the sword) breaks."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Saghir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and the narrators of both reports are the narrators of the Sahih.
