وَفِي رِوَايَةٍ : " يَا عَائِشَةُ ، أَوَّلُ مَنْ يَهْلِكُ مِنَ النَّاسِ قَوْمُكِ " . قَالَ : قُلْتُ : - جَعَلَنِي اللَّهُ فَدَاكَ - أَبَنِي تَيْمٍ ؟ قَالَ : " لَا ، وَلَكِنَّ هَذَا الْحَيَّ مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ تَسْتَحْلِيُهُمُ الْمَنَايَا ، وَتَنَفَّسُ النَّاسُ عَنْهُمْ أَوَّلُ النَّاسِ هَلَاكًا " . قُلْتُ : فَمَا بَقَاءُ النَّاسِ بَعْدَهُمْ ؟ قَالَ : " هُمْ صُلْبُ النَّاسِ ، إِذَا هَلَكُوا هَلَكَ النَّاسُ " . رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ ، وَالْبَزَّارُ بِبَعْضِهِ ، وَالطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْأَوْسَطِ بِبَعْضِهِ أَيْضًا ، وَإِسْنَادُ الرِّوَايَةِ الْأُولَى عِنْدَ أَحْمَدَ رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ ، وَفِي بَقِيَّةِ الرِّوَايَاتِ مَقَالٌ .
In one narration the words are: "O Aishah! Of all people, your people will be the first to perish." I said: "May Allah Almighty make me a ransom for you! Banu Taym?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No! Rather, this tribe of Quraysh: death will finish them off and people will kill them." I said: "Then how will the people survive after them?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "These people (that is, Quraysh) are the backbone of the (other) people; when they perish, the rest of the people will perish too."
Imam Ahmad recorded this narration, Imam al-Bazzar recorded part of it, and Imam al-Tabarani also recorded part of it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. The narrators of the first narration recorded by Imam Ahmad are the narrators of the Sahih, and the remaining narrations have been criticised.
