Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 16465

Sayyidah Aishah al-Siddiqah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: Once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to my home and said: "O Aishah! Of my Ummah, your people will be the first to join me." Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) says: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had sat down, I said: "O Messenger of Allah! May Allah Almighty make me a ransom for you! When you came in, you said something that has alarmed me." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "What is it?" I said: "You said that, of your Ummah, my people will be the first to join you." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes." I said: "What is the reason for that?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Death will find them sweet and carry them off, and their Ummah will begrudge them." Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) says: I said: "What will become of the people after that?" (The narrator is unsure; perhaps the words are:) "What will become of the people at that time?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Like insects: the strong among them will devour the weak, until the Hour is established upon them." The narrator says: The word "dubba" means insects whose wings have not yet grown.
