Ubaydullah bin Umar bin Musa narrates: I was present with Sulayman bin Ali when an elderly man from Quraysh came in. Sulayman said: "Look at this elderly man!" Then he seated him in a good place and said: "Quraysh have a right." I said: "O Amir! Shall I not narrate to you a hadith that has reached me from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)?" He said: "Yes, indeed!" So I told him:
"It has reached me that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'Whoever insults Quraysh, Allah Almighty will humiliate him.'" The narrator says: He said: "Subhan Allah! How excellent this is! Who narrated this hadith to you?" The narrator says: I said: "Rabi'ah bin Abi Abd al-Rahman narrated this hadith to me from Sa'id bin al-Musayyib, from Amr bin Uthman bin Affan, who said: My father (that is, Sayyiduna Uthman al-Ghani (may Allah be pleased with him)) said to me: 'O my son! If you are ever put in charge of any of the people's affairs, then honour Quraysh, for I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whoever insults Quraysh, Allah Almighty will humiliate him."'"
Imam Ahmad recorded this narration, Imam Abu Ya'la recorded it in al-Kabir in abridged form, and Imam al-Bazzar recorded something similar; its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
