Sayyiduna Wahshi bin Harb (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: When Allah Almighty gave Sayyidah Safiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) as fay', he said to his Companions: What do you say about this slave girl? The people said: We think that you are more entitled to her than anyone, and have the greater right to her. the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Then I free her and marry her, and I make her freedom her dowry (mahr). A man said: O Messenger of Allah, the wedding feast (walimah)? the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The walimah is a right, (feeding people) on the second day is a kindness, and on the third day it is pride and it is a sin.
Imam al-Tabarani recorded this narration, and Ibn Hibban declared its narrators thiqat (trustworthy).
