Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amir al-Juhani (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) divorced Sayyidah Hafsah (may Allah be pleased with her). When the news reached Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), he put dust on his head and said: O son of al-Khattab, what regard will Allah Almighty have for you after this? Then Sayyiduna Jibril (peace be upon him) descended upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: Allah Almighty commands you to take back Sayyidah Hafsah (may Allah be pleased with her), out of mercy for Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him).
At-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Amr bin Salih al-Hadrami, whom I do not know, and the rest of its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
