وَعَنْ أَسْمَاءَ بِنْتِ عُمَيْسٍ قَالَتْ : خَطَبَنِي عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ - رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ - فَبَلَغَ ذَلِكَ فَاطِمَةَ فَأَتَتِ النَّبِيَّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - فَقَالَتْ : إِنَّ أَسْمَاءَ مُتَزَوِّجَةٌ عَلِيًّا ، فَقَالَ لَهَا : " مَا كَانَ لَهَا أَنْ تُؤْذِيَ اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ " . رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْكَبِيرِ وَالْأَوْسَطِ ، وَفِيهِمَا مَنْ لَمْ أَعْرِفْهُ .
Sayyidah Asma bint Umays (may Allah be pleased with her) says: Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) sent me a proposal of marriage. When Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) learned of this, she came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: Asma is about to marry Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to her: This woman has no right to cause harm to Allah and His Messenger.
Imam al-Tabarani recorded this narration in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and the chains of both contain a narrator whom I do not know.
