Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 14673

Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took my hand and said: "Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him) asked his Lord to make his mosque prevail through Sayyiduna Harun (peace be upon him), and I have asked my Lord to make my mosque prevail through you and your offspring." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent word to Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him): "Close your door." He said "Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un (We belong to Allah and to Him we return)," and then said: "I hear and obey." He closed his door. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent word to Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), and then he sent similar word to Sayyiduna al-Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him). Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It was not I who closed your doors and left Ali's door open; rather, Allah Almighty left Ali's door open and had your doors closed."
Al-Bazzar recorded it. Its chain contains a narrator whom I do not know.
