Sayyiduna Zayd bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Some of the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had their own doors that opened into the mosque. The narrator says: One day the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Close these doors, except leave Ali's door." The narrator says: The people talked about this. The narrator says: Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up, and after praising and glorifying Allah Almighty, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "To proceed: I ordered that all the doors be closed and that Ali's door be left open, and one of you said something about it. By Allah! I have neither closed anything nor opened anything (that is, I did not do this of my own accord); rather, I followed what I was commanded."
Ahmad recorded it. Its chain contains Maymun Abu Abdullah, whom Ibn Hibban declared thiqah (trustworthy) and a group declared da'if (weak). The rest of its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
