Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him): "You are to me as Sayyiduna Harun (peace be upon him) was to Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him), except that there will be no prophet after me."
Ahmad and al-Bazzar recorded it, but he recorded these words: "During the expedition of Tabuk, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him): 'I am leaving you behind as my deputy over my family.' Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: 'O Messenger of Allah! I dislike that the Arabs should say: He abandoned his cousin and stayed behind from him.' The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'Are you not pleased to be to me as Sayyiduna Harun (peace be upon him) was to Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him), except that there will be no prophet after me?'" Its chain contains Atiyyah al-Awfi, whom Yahya bin Ma'in declared thiqah (trustworthy), while Ahmad and others declared him da'if (weak). The rest of Ahmad's narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
