وَفِي رِوَايَةٍ : وَكَانَ - يَعْنِي عُمَرَ - إِذَا سَلَكَ طَرِيقًا وَجَدْنَاهُ سَهْلًا ، فَإِذَا ذُكِرَ الصَّالِحُونَ فَحَيَّهَلَا بِعُمَرَ ، كَانَ فَضْلٌ مَا بَيْنَ الزِّيَادَةِ وَالنُّقْصَانِ ، وَاللَّهِ لَوَدِدْتُ أَنِّي أَخْدِمُ مِثْلَهُ حَتَّى أَمُوتَ .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ بِأَسَانِيدَ ، وَرِجَالُ أَحَدِهَا رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ .

In one narration the words are: Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "When Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) took a path, we found it smooth. When the righteous are mentioned, Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) will be mentioned with special care. He was a dividing line (fasl) between increase and decrease. By Allah! I wish I could have served someone like him until I died."
