Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "When the righteous are mentioned, Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) will be mentioned prominently. Sayyiduna Umar's (may Allah be pleased with him) acceptance of Islam was a source of help, and his rule was a source of conquest. By Allah! I know that everything on the face of the earth, even the thorny trees, felt the absence of Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). By Allah! I think that there was an angel between the eyes of Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) who kept him on the right path and guided him. By Allah! I think Satan used to flee from him in fear that if he introduced anything new into Islam, Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) would eliminate it. By Allah! If I knew of a dog that loved Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), I would love that dog too."
