Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 13545

Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah bin Haydah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I said: O Messenger of Allah! What right does my neighbour have over me? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If he falls ill, visit him; if he dies, accompany his funeral; if he asks you for a loan, lend to him; if his circumstances become poor, cover up his condition; if some good comes to him, congratulate him; if a calamity befalls him, console him. Do not raise your building above his building so that you block the breeze from him, and do not trouble him with the smell of your cooking pot, unless you ladle out some of it (your curry, or that pot) for him, in which case the ruling is different."
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Abu Bakr al-Hudhali, and he is da'if (weak).
