Sayyiduna Muhammad bin Maslamah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: Once I was passing by. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was at that time on (the hill of) Safa, and he had placed his blessed cheek against a man (i.e., he was very close to him, talking with him). After a short while, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called out to me in a loud voice and said: "O Muhammad bin Maslamah! Why did you not greet with salam?" Sayyiduna Muhammad bin Maslamah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah! I saw you doing something with that man which you have not done with anyone among the people, so I did not think it proper to interrupt your conversation. O Messenger of Allah! Who was that man? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "That was Jibril." Sayyiduna Muhammad bin Maslamah (may Allah be pleased with him) asked: What was he saying? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "He kept urging me about the neighbour, until I was waiting for him to tell me to make him an heir as well."
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Ayyash bin Musa al-Sa'di. Ibn Abi Hatim mentioned Ayyash bin Mu'nis, from whom two people narrated. If this is Ibn Mu'nis, then its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy); otherwise I do not know him.
