Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 1352

Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanding wiping over the leather socks, provided that a person had put them on while in a state of ablution.
Abu Ya'la recorded it. From Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) there is reported in the "Sahih" the incident of Sayyiduna Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him), which is other than this one, and Ibn Majah recorded another hadith from him. The narrators of this report are thiqat (trustworthy).
