Sayyiduna al-Mughirah bin Shu'bah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: During a journey, I helped the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) perform ablution. He washed his face and both forearms, wiped over his head and wiped over his leather socks. I said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), shall I take off your leather socks? He said: No. When I put them (my feet into the leather socks), they were both pure, and I have not walked barefoot since then.
Imam Ahmad recorded this report. It is also transmitted in the Sahih, but without these words: "and I have not walked barefoot since then". The narrators of this report are the narrators of the Sahih.
