Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 1348

Imam al-Tabarani recorded this report in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir with these additional words: Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) used to command wiping over the leather socks while he himself washed his feet. He was spoken to about this, and he said: How bad it would be for me if the ease of it were yours and the sin of it were mine.
Its narrators have been declared trustworthy.
