Majma al-Zawaid 13461 — Maintaining and severing ties of kinship
وَعَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " تَعَلَّمُوا مِنْ أَنْسَابِكُمْ مَا تَصِلُونَ بِهِ أَرْحَامَكُمْ " . رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْأَوْسَطِ ، وَفِيهِ أَبُو الْأَسْبَاطِ وَهُوَ ضَعِيفٌ .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Learn about your lineages so that through this you may maintain the ties of kinship."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains a narrator, Abu al-Asbat, who is da'if (weak).
