A man from the tribe of Khath'am says: I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) while he was among his Companions. I said: "Are you the one who says that you are the Messenger of Allah?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: "Yes." The narrator says: I said: "O Messenger of Allah, which deed is most beloved to Allah Almighty?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Believing in Allah Almighty." The narrator says: I said: "Then which?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then maintaining the ties of kinship." The narrator says: I said: "O Messenger of Allah, then which?" He said: "Then enjoining good and forbidding evil." I said: "O Messenger of Allah, which deed is most hateful to Allah Almighty?" He said: "Associating partners with Allah." I said: "O Messenger of Allah, then which?" He said: "Severing the ties of kinship." I said: "O Messenger of Allah, then which?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Enjoining evil and forbidding good."
Abu Ya'la recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih, except for Nafi' bin Khalid al-Tahi, who is thiqah (trustworthy).
