عَنِ الْعَبَّاسِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - نَهَى عَنِ الْوَسْمِ فِي الْوَجْهِ ، فَقَالَ الْعَبَّاسُ : لَا أَسِمُ إِلَّا فِي الْجَاعِرَتَيْنِ . رَوَاهُ أَبُو يَعْلَى وَالطَّبَرَانِيُّ وَرِجَالُهُمَا ثِقَاتٌ وَفِي بَعْضِهِمْ خِلَافٌ ، إِلَّا أَنَّ جَعْفَرَ بْنَ تَمَّامِ بْنِ الْعَبَّاسِ لَمْ يَسْمَعْ مِنْ جَدِّهِ ، وَاللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ .
Sayyiduna al-Abbas bin Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade branding on the face. So Sayyiduna al-Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Now I will brand only on the raised parts near the tail of (the animal)."
Abu Ya'la and al-Tabarani recorded it, and the narrators of both are thiqat (trustworthy), though there is disagreement about some of its narrators; however, Ja'far bin Tammam bin al-Abbas did not hear from his grandfather. And Allah knows best.
