Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 13073

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "In the head of every human being there are two chains: one chain goes toward the sky and one chain goes toward the earth. When he adopts humility, Allah Almighty raises him by the chain that is toward the sky, and when that person is arrogant, Allah Almighty lowers him by the chain that is toward the earth."
Al-Bazzar recorded it. Its chain contains a narrator, Zam'ah bin Salih; most (scholars) have declared him da'if (weak). The rest of its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
