It is narrated from Sayyiduna Usamah bin Akhdari (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man from Banu Shuqrah named Asram came with a group of people into the presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He says: He brought to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) an Abyssinian slave of his, whom he had bought in that land. He said to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "O Messenger of Allah, I have bought him, and I would like you to change his name and pray for blessing for him." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "What is your name?" I said: "Asram." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You are Zur'ah." He asked: "What do you want to name him?" He said: "I want to name him Ra'i." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "He is Asim." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) closed his fist.
(Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Abu Dawud recorded it with the story of the Abyssinian slave abridged.
Al-Tabarani recorded it, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
