وَعَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سَلَامٍ قَالَ :
كَانَ اسْمِي فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ غَيْلَانَ ، فَسَمَّانِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - عَبْدَ اللَّهِ .
قُلْتُ : رَوَاهُ ابْنُ مَاجَهْ ، غَيْرَ قَوْلِهِ : كَانَ اسْمِي فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ غَيْلَانَ .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَفِيهِ يَحْيَى بْنُ يَعْلَى وَهُوَ ضَعِيفٌ .
كَانَ اسْمِي فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ غَيْلَانَ ، فَسَمَّانِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - عَبْدَ اللَّهِ .
قُلْتُ : رَوَاهُ ابْنُ مَاجَهْ ، غَيْرَ قَوْلِهِ : كَانَ اسْمِي فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ غَيْلَانَ .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَفِيهِ يَحْيَى بْنُ يَعْلَى وَهُوَ ضَعِيفٌ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Salam (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: In the Jahiliyyah my name was Ghaylan, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) named me Abdullah. (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say:
Ibn Majah recorded it, but without these words: "In the Jahiliyyah my name was Ghaylan."
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains Yahya bin Ya'la, who is da'if (weak).
