It is reported about Sayyiduna Utbah bin Abd (may Allah be pleased with him). He says: He came along with some people who wanted to change their names. The narrator says: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw me, he called me, and I was a young boy. He asked: What is your name? I replied: Atalah bin Abd. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Rather, you are Utbah bin Abd. Show me your sword. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) drew it from its sheath and looked at it, and it was a sword that was thin and weak. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do not strike with it; rather, thrust with it.
Al-Tabarani recorded it through various routes, the narrators of some of which are thiqat (trustworthy).
