Majma al-Zawaid 12877 — Changing names, the names that are prohibited

It is reported from Sayyiduna Utbah (may Allah be pleased with him) that when he pledged allegiance to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: What is your name? He replied: Shaybah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: You are Utbah bin Abd.
Al-Tabarani recorded it, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
