Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: When Hasan was born, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came and said: Show me my son; what have you named him? I replied: Harb. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: No, rather he is Hasan. Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) says: When Husayn was born, I named him Harb. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came and said: Show me my son; what have you named him? I replied: Harb. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: No, rather he is Husayn. When the third son was born, I named him Harb. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came and said: Show me my son; what have you named him? I said: Harb. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Rather, he is Muhsin. Then he said: I name them after the names of the sons of Sayyiduna Harun (peace be upon him): Bishr, Bashir and Mubashshir.
Ahmad and al-Bazzar recorded it, except that he recorded these words: "I name them after the names of the sons of Sayyiduna Harun (peace be upon him): Jabr, Jubayr and Mujbar."
Al-Tabarani also recorded it. The narrators of Ahmad and al-Bazzar are the narrators of the Sahih, except that the case of Hani' bin Hani' is different, and he is thiqah (trustworthy).
