Sayyiduna Thawban (may Allah be pleased with him), the freed slave of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever performs ablution and, after finishing his ablution, recites: 'I bear witness that there is no god except Allah Almighty, and I bear witness that Sayyiduna Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is the Messenger of Allah. O Allah, make me among those who repent, and make me among those who purify themselves well' (the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) says:) the eight gates of Paradise are opened for him, so that he may enter (Paradise) through whichever (gate) he wishes."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir in abridged form. In al-Mu'jam al-Awsat he says: The narrator Miswar bin Muwarri' is alone in narrating it. (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I have not found anyone who gave an account of him. Its chain contains a narrator, Ahmad bin Suhayl al-Warraq, whom Ibn Hibban mentioned in the book "al-Thiqat". The chain in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir contains a narrator, Abu Sa'id al-Baqqal, whom most declared da'if (weak), while some declared him thiqah (trustworthy).
