Abd al-Rahman bin al-Baylamani narrates: I saw Sayyiduna Uthman Ghani (may Allah be pleased with him) sitting at al-Maqa'id, performing ablution. A man passed by him and greeted him with peace, but he did not reply to him. When he had finished his ablution, he came into the mosque, stopped by that man and said: The only reason I did not reply to you is that I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whoever, while performing ablution, washes both hands, then rinses his mouth three times, puts water in his nose three times, washes his face three times, washes both arms up to the elbows, wipes his head, and washes both feet, and then, before speaking, recites: 'I bear witness that there is no god except Allah Almighty, He is One, He has no partner, and that Sayyiduna Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is His servant and His Messenger' (the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:) then (the sins) between his two ablutions are forgiven for him."
Abu Ya'la recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Muhammad bin Abd al-Rahman bin al-Baylamani, whose weakness is agreed upon.
