Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 121

A Companion from the Qays tribe, whose name is Ibn al-Muntafiq, states: The description of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was given to me, so I looked for him in Makkah. I was told: He (peace and blessings be upon him) is in Mina. I looked for him in Mina, and I was told: He (peace and blessings be upon him) is at Arafat. When I reached him, I made my way through the crowd and came to him. I took hold of the rein of the mount of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) (here the narrator is unsure about one word), until the necks of our mounts touched one another, yet the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) neither rebuked me nor pushed me away. I said: I want to ask you about two things: What can save me from Hell? And what can admit me into Paradise? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) looked towards the sky, then lowered his head, then turned his face towards me and said: You have asked a brief question, but it is a great (important) and lengthy (question). Remember this from me! Worship Allah Almighty! Do not associate anyone with Him as a partner; perform the obligatory prayer, pay the obligatory zakah, and fast in Ramadan. Whatever you would like people to do to you, do the same to them; and whatever you would dislike people doing to you, do not do that to people. Then he said: Leave the mount's path free!
Imam Ahmad and Imam al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Abdullah bin Abi Aqil al-Yashkuri; I have not seen anyone narrate from him other than his son, al-Mughirah bin Abdullah.
