Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever performs ablution once each (that is, washes each limb once while performing ablution), that is the form of ablution which cannot be done without. Whoever performs ablution twice each will have two portions of reward. And whoever performs ablution three times each, that is my way of ablution and that of the Prophets before me."
Ahmad recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Zayd al-Ammi, who is da'if (weak), though he has also been declared thiqah (trustworthy). The rest of its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih. Ibn Majah also recorded a hadith of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) on this, and it is a longer hadith than this one; however, each of the two reports contains things that are not in the other. And Allah knows best.
