Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 11592

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: Two men of the Ansar recited a surah which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had taught the two of them, and they used to recite it. One night the two of them stood praying (with it), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is among what has been abrogated or caused to be forgotten, so leave it aside." The narrator says: Al-Zuhri used to recite this verse as: "Whatever verse We abrogate or cause to be forgotten," that is, he recited the "nun" with a dammah and without doubling.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains a narrator, Sulayman bin Arqam, who is matruk (abandoned).
