Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: A man came to Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) and asked him (for wealth). Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) looked him over carefully from head to foot to see whether any signs of poverty were visible on him. Then Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) asked him: How much wealth do you have? He replied: Forty camels. Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: I said: Allah and His Messenger have spoken the truth (the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said): "If a human being had two valleys of gold, he would desire a third; nothing fills the belly of a human being except dust, and whoever repents, Allah Almighty accepts his repentance." Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) asked: What is this? I said: Sayyiduna Ubayy (may Allah be pleased with him) taught it to me in this way. The narrator says: Then Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) took us along to Sayyiduna Ubayy (may Allah be pleased with him) and asked: What is this one saying? Sayyiduna Ubayy (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had taught it to him in this way. Then he asked: Shall I record it in the mushaf? He replied: Yes.
Ahmad recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
