وَعَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ قَيْسٍ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنَ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ نَزَعَ بِهَذِهِ الْآيَةِ الْيَوْمَ أَكْمَلْتُ لَكُمْ دِينَكُمْ حَتَّى خَتَمَ الْآيَةَ ، قَالَ : نَزَلَتْ فِي يَوْمِ عَرَفَةَ فِي يَوْمِ جُمُعَةٍ ، ثُمَّ تَلَا هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ فَمَنْ كَانَ يَرْجُو لِقَاءَ رَبِّهِ فَلْيَعْمَلْ عَمَلًا صَالِحًا وَلَا يُشْرِكْ بِعِبَادَةِ رَبِّهِ أَحَدًا . رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَرِجَالُهُ ثِقَاتٌ .
Amr bin Qays narrates that he heard Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah bin Abi Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him) on the pulpit; he singled out this verse: "This day I have perfected for you your religion." He recited the verse in full and then said: "This verse was revealed on the day of Arafah, which was a Friday." Then he recited this verse: "So whoever hopes for the meeting with his Lord, let him do righteous deeds and not associate anyone in the worship of his Lord."
