Sayyiduna al-Sa'ib bin Yazid (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: In the blessed time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), the blood money was one hundred camels of four different ages: twenty-five hiqqah, twenty-five jadha'ah, twenty-five bint makhad and twenty-five bint labun. Then came the time of Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), and the realm expanded. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Not everyone has camels." So the price of one camel was fixed at one uqiyah, and on that basis the blood money came to four thousand dirhams. Then the price of camels rose, and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Assess the price of a camel, and make it one and a half uqiyah." On that basis the amount became six thousand dirhams. Then the price of camels rose again, and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Assess the price of the camels." Their price was set at three uqiyah, and the blood money became twelve thousand dirhams. So twelve thousand was made due from the people of silver; one hundred camels from the people of camels; one thousand dinars from those who pay in gold; two hundred garments (hullah) from those who deal in cloth, each garment worth five dinars; one thousand sheep from the people of sheep; two thousand goats from the people of goats; and two hundred cows from the people of cattle.
Al-Tabarani recorded it. Its chain contains a narrator, Abu Ma'shar Najih, and a narrator, Salih bin Abi al-Akhdar, and both of them are da'if (weak).
