Husayn bin Abi al-Hurr narrates that his father Malik and his two paternal uncles, Ubayd and Qays, all sons of al-Khashkhash, came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and complained to him that a man from among their cousins had raided people. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) wrote a letter to them (in which was written): "This is a letter from Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), to Malik and Ubayd: You are secure Muslims, and your lives and your wealth are under a guarantee of safety. You will not be seized for the crime of anyone other than yourselves, and no one will bring liability upon you; only what you yourselves do is a different matter."
Al-Tabarani recorded it.
It is mursal, and the rest of its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
